CF "Friends of the Museum"
The Charitable Foundation “Friends of the Museum” was established in 2016 with the aim of implementing projects at the Odesa National Fine Arts Museum to further its development and raise its profile amongst new audiences. The Foundation’s mission is to promote and research the history of the institution, the city, and Ukrainian and Odesa art, and to create an open and tolerant space for discussing complex topics that form an integral part of our history.
The CF “Friends of the Museum” supports the Odessa National Fine Arts Museum in realising its vision – to become an innovative cultural and educational institution that preserves and researches artistic heritage, develops its collection, and serves as a centre for intellectual and cultural exchange.
Implemented projects:
"Digitalisation of archive sections of the Odesa National Fine Arts Museum for the multimedia online archive"
implementation period: 2025;
project budget: €19 549,15;
funded by the House of Europe
More than 8100 pages of documents from 9 archive funds (#23, 24, 25, 46, 47, 49, 59, 60, 69) were scanned, described by the researchers and made public at the website of the ONFAM online archive. They include information about three past museum employees, three artists and three contemporary art critics. Also, a server, a UPS, a RAM, a security gateway and two hard drives to ensure the continuous functioning of the digitalised materials storage were purchased.
"Heating season"
implementation period: 2023-2024;
project budget: €9 982,35;
funded as part of the support for cross-innovative cultural projects under the EU4Culture programme
Throughout the course of the project the kinetic installation called “tracegraph” was assembled. A special code was written that programs random movement of the magnet hidden inside. The result of the movement of burned nails against the paper is presented as “tracegrams” of which the exhibitions consisted. Two exhibitions took place: at “Asortymentna kimnata” gallery in Ivano-Frankivsk and at the Odesa National Fine Arts Museum. During the periods of exhibitions, interviews with the artist and curators were conducted. It is reflected in several articles and the final zine.
"Digital Multimedia Archive of Odesa Fine Arts Museum"
implementation period: 2022-2023;
project budget: €24 881;
funded by the Stabilisation Fund for Culture and Education of the German Federal Foreign Office and Goethe-Institut
The project funded by the Goethe-Institut allowed to develop an online multimedia archive and to digitize the most important documents for the history of the museum and Ukrainian art from the museum archive. We have also developed and implemented a system for indexing names and cross-search on published documents. This project has overcome the established practice in the Ukrainian museology of closedness and inaccessibility for researchers and ordinary users of specialized archives in the museums of Ukraine by publishing and providing online free access to the scientific archive.
